About the Event
Climbers often enjoy camping outdoors, night climbing, and exploring remote areas where dark skies, countless stars, and the Milky Way can be fully experienced in the stillness of the night. However, many of us live in cities where light pollution is ever-present. Beyond limiting our ability to see the stars, artificial light also disrupts wildlife. Many species, including birds, rely on the moon and stars to navigate. Most migratory birds in North America travel at night, and when they pass through brightly lit cities, artificial light can disorient them, leading to fatal collisions.
The Lights Out, Texas! film, produced by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology's Center for Conservation Media, highlights the critical efforts of the Lights Out, Texas! campaign to reduce bird mortality caused by light pollution and glass in urban environments.
Join Patagonia Dallas, Boulder Project, United Rocks, and Texas Conservation Alliance to learn more about the impact of light pollution and how simple actions at home can help protect migratory birds as part of our commitment to environmental stewardship. Special thanks to Access Fund and Texas Lady Crushers for partnering with us!
